Bob is almost bilingual.

Many couples complain about how hard it is to find an officiant who is bilingual.  Bob can help!

He has an ear for languages and can learn to read them for wedding ceremonies.  He probably would not be able to participate in conversations with your guests however.

He grew up on a farm, worked alongside field laborers and sheepherders from Mexico, Spain and Peru, and thereby learned some Spanish.  He now gets far less practice and his ears have slowed, but his pronunciation remains good and, with advance preparation, he can read Spanish convincingly.

He has also performed selected portions of wedding ceremonies in Portuguese and Arabic, and may soon try Japanese!
We have a friend from Colombia we can recruit to translate for us.  However, it may be better to use a family member who is truly bilingual as a translator.

There are professional translators available as well and Lori has performed a wedding where the American family found a translator through one of the local colleges who spoke Japanese.

When we work with a translator, we will provide them a copy of the ceremony in English so they can translate it into the required language.  As an example, we have performed the entire ceremony by saying one phrase or sentence at a time which is then repeated by the translator.  Some couples choose to only translate their vows and a few especially poignant passages.    The ceremony may take a bit longer, but it is beautiful.
